Your phone's focus mode is useless without this one change
I turned on focus mode for a year and got nothing from it. The notifications stopped, but I kept unlocking the phone anyway — the checking was the habit, not the responding.
The change that worked: making the phone boring to look at. Grayscale display, home screen stripped to four tools, every feed app moved into a folder on the last page named after what it costs me. Mine is called 45 Minutes.
Focus mode fights the phone's outputs. Boring mode fights its rewards. Color and adjacency are most of the pull; remove them and the unlock urge dies out in about a week — mine dropped from 90 pickups a day to 31, measured, not guessed.
Keep focus mode on, sure. But if the phone still looks like a slot machine, you have silenced the bell and left the casino open.
