The email template that got me 4 freelance clients in a month
Cold pitching used to terrify me, so I studied every reply I ever got and found a pattern: the emails that worked were short, specific, and about them, not me.
The template has three sentences. First: one concrete observation about their content or business — proof I actually looked. Second: one specific idea I could execute for them, framed as a result. Third: a low-pressure close — worth a quick chat?
No bio paragraph. No portfolio dump. No apology for taking their time. Attach nothing; link one relevant sample only if it truly matches.
I sent 32 of these in January. Eleven replies, six calls, four clients. The math has held up every month since. The secret is not the template — it is doing the ten minutes of homework that most pitchers skip.
